In a previous post I shared some thoughts on the Cheonan incident. A friend (Luan Van Le, the director of the Tong-Il documentary) forwarded me the link to this thought provoking article at AlterNet, written by the former editor of the Japan Times, Yoichi Shimatsu. Although the investigation into the sinking of the ship was done by a committee of five countries, the full report -- as far as I know -- has not been made available to the public. Shimatsu also raises some important questions like the confirmed presence of a US naval ship close by at the time of the incident, but which seems to be a neglected detail in the formal investigation.

Ek moet bieg dat ek geen van die skakels gevolg het nie en dus geen ander woorde oor die voorval gelees het nie behalwe dié van jou waarop ek nou reageer. Ek besit nie 'n werkende TV nie en het dus ook nie die voorval daar kon volg nie. Ek herroep wel dat ek iewers 'n foto van 'n geroeste "iets" gesien het wat hulle voorgehou het as oorblyfsels van die gewraakte torpedo. Al wat ek wil sê (sonder om 'n hele opstel te skryf) is dat ek oortuig is dat die skip NIE deur DPRK gesink is nie. Ek dink die VSA en vennote is besig met voorbrand om op een of ander wyse DPRK aan te vat omdat hulle nie wil hê dat hy kernwapens moet hê nie. Daar is heel waarskynlik ander strategiese redes ook...
